The land leased for a photovoltaic farm should have a minimum area of 1 ha, be flat, unshaded, and free of tall trees or buildings. Crucially, the location should be near energy infrastructure and the soil should be Class IV–VI. Easy access for construction and service machinery is an added benefit.
After several decades, the PV farm remains operational, typically with an efficiency of around 85–90%. It can be modernized, the lease agreement extended, or the installation decommissioned. Panels and structural elements are suitable for recycling, allowing for the recovery of up to 95% of materials.
